The German Institute for Construction Technology has confirmed the general building approval of the metal polymer MM1018 for a further five years and thus until 2023. For decades, the material has proven its worth worldwide, above all in bridge, steel and hydraulic steel construction, as well as in shipbuilding.


With the current approval, the properties of the metal polymer MM1018 were again confirmed according to the strict multi-level quality assessments of the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik.


For the general building approval, among other things, the compressive strength, the viscosity, the pot life, the elasticity and the creep behavior play a decisive role. MM1018 was able to meet the specifications in all respects and thus continues to be the only building-approved metal polymer for 100 percent form and force-locking, full-surface gap compensation. Both steel-concrete and steel-steel compounds – the latter as a unique feature of this material.


Developed and marketed by the German specialist for polymers and coatings Diamant Metallplastic, this material is a two-component reaction resin system highly filled with special metallic materials.


In one work step, MM1018 provides 100 form and force-locking gap compensation, without mechanical processing and without the need for additional wedge plates or lining sheets. It can be applied liquid as well as pasty.


The pasty material is suitable if the parts to be joined are not yet permanently connected. In the liquid version MM1018 is mostly chosen for the “reactive” application – that means for the subsequent gap compensation in already assembled steel constructions. Both application variants are usually fully cured and loadable after 24 hours.


Thanks to its versatility and ease of use, MM1018 saves significant time and personnel costs compared to conventional gap balancing techniques – with greater flexibility, sustainability and cost-effectiveness.


Against the background of its building inspectorate approval, MM1018 is also recognized by the Waterway Authorities (WSV) as well as under conditions imposed by Deutsche Bahn (German Railway) and named in installation regulations.


Its use is also described and specified in the VHFL guideline no. 2 (VHFL = Association of the Manufacturers of Road Transitions and Bearings).  Based in Mönchengladbach, Germany, Diamant Metallplastic GmbH develops, formulates and produces metal polymers and coatings for the metalworking industry, casting, steel and bridge construction and shipbuilding.
